The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has achieved a major breakthrough in the Twisha Sharma death case by filing a comprehensive 636-page chargesheet on August 17, 2026. The federal agency names former district judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, who is a practicing lawyer, as the primary accused. The duo has been charged with abetment to suicide and cruelty, transitioning the high-profile case from the investigative phase to the trial phase in a special CBI court in Bhopal.

The CBI's extensive probe focused on the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of Twisha Sharma, who was the daughter-in-law of Giribala Singh and married to Samarth Singh. According to findings detailed in the report, the deceased was subjected to regular physical violence, mental torture, and a hostile environment created by her in-laws over domestic issues. The agency examined digital evidence, witness testimonies, and communication records provided by the deceased's family, noting that Giribala Singh was actively involved despite her former judicial background.
