Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s Delimitation Meet Faces Boycott by DMK and AIADMK

Only 21 out of the state's 57 Members of Parliament attended the session called to discuss the potential impact of redistricting on the state’s political representation. The DMK leadership termed the meeting a "charade," asserting that any meaningful discussion could only occur after the Bill is officially tabled in Parliament. This collective boycott highlights the deepening rift between the ruling administration and the established Dravidian parties over the sensitive issue of parliamentary seat allocation.

Rahul Gandhi joined the chorus of opposition, characterizing the Delimitation Bill as a strategic design to diminish the political power of the people of Tamil Nadu. He stated that any political entity supporting the current form of the Bill would be perceived as a betrayer of the state’s interests. Within the state, R.S. Bharathi of the DMK clarified that his party would reserve judgment until the full text of the legislation is available. The AIADMK and its allies also aligned with this stance, effectively isolating the Chief Minister's initiative to present a unified front to the central government.

The lack of participation from major regional players suggests that the Delimitation Bill will become a primary flashpoint in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape leading into the next electoral cycle.
