Telangana Promotes Experience Pochampally Cultural Walk for Handloom Tourists

Telangana is actively promoting Experience Pochampally, a cultural walk designed to immerse tourists in the traditional art of Pochampally Ikat saree weaving. The initiative moves beyond standard retail experiences by allowing visitors to observe the intricate production process firsthand, touring local looms and weavers' homes within the heritage village.

Pochampally, widely known as Silk City, features a community where nearly every household is involved in the craft, operating approximately 5,000 looms to produce distinct Ikat silk sarees. The village gained international recognition when its unique tie-and-dye technique earned the first Geographical Indication protection for an Indian textile manufacturing process.

The tourism campaign seeks to improve the economic livelihoods of local handloom artisans by connecting them directly with consumers and expanding market access for their products. Officials hope the immersive walks will boost domestic and international tourism while preserving centuries-old textile traditions.
