TN Law Minister Denies Drug Link in Coimbatore Student Fatality

The Tamil Nadu government has officially clarified that the recent killing of a student named Amudhan in Coimbatore was the result of a violent group clash rather than drug-related activities. During a discussion in the State Assembly, the Law Minister stated that initial investigations point toward personal animosity and conflict between rival groups in the area. This clarification was necessary to address rising public concern regarding substance abuse in Coimbatore, which local residents and some opposition members had initially blamed for the tragic incident.

Following the tragedy, senior members of the state cabinet moved quickly to provide relief to the victim’s family. Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu and Backward Classes Minister V. Sampath Kumar visited Amudhan’s parents to express their condolences and hand over a compensation cheque of six lakh rupees. In a further move to support the grieving family, the government has promised a public sector job to the victim’s brother, ensuring long-term financial security for the household after the loss of a young family member.

The incident has triggered a broader debate in the Tamil Nadu Assembly regarding the law and order situation in industrial cities like Coimbatore. While the government maintains the killing was an isolated act of violence stemming from a group dispute, opposition leaders have called for increased police patrolling and better monitoring of student groups. Moving forward, the state police are expected to intensify their crackdown on local gangs to prevent such clashes from escalating into wider public safety threats, while the education department monitors campus environments.
