Supreme Court Rejects Petition Against Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat

The Supreme Court of India has officially dismissed a legal petition challenging the renovation approvals for Mannat, the iconic seaside residence of actor Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, emphasized that homeowners possess the legal right to renovate their properties provided they adhere to regulatory norms. This decision effectively ends the ongoing legal challenge regarding the bungalow's expansion and structural changes.

The dispute originated from a petition filed by a Mumbai resident, who alleged that the required environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances had not been obtained for the renovation project. The petitioner argued that mandatory ministry approvals were necessary for the expansion, which includes adding two additional floors to an annex building. However, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had previously reviewed and cleared the project, confirming that all necessary environmental regulations were followed.

With the apex court’s refusal to interfere with the NGT’s earlier verdict, the expansion plans for Mannat appear set to proceed without further legal hurdles. The Court clarified that celebrity status does not influence the legal standard for property development, dismissing arguments that the project violated environmental norms. This ruling provides a definitive conclusion to the dispute, allowing the family to continue their planned home improvements within the permitted legal framework.
