Sheikh Hasina Announces Plan to Return to Bangladesh

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced her intention to return to her country from exile in India. Speaking virtually at a press conference organized by the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia in New Delhi, Hasina broke her long silence since her ouster. She asserted that her duty to the people of Bangladesh outweighs her personal safety concerns. This announcement comes despite a heightened threat environment and explicit warnings of execution from the current interim authorities in Dhaka.

During her address, a visibly emotional Hasina claimed that the massive student protests were weaponised by external forces and political opponents to topple her government. She argued that students were emotionally manipulated and that the true intent behind the movement was a coup rather than democratic reform. Hasina broke down repeatedly while recalling the legacy of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the plight of her family. She maintained that the transition of power was unconstitutional and orchestrated to destabilize the nation.

Hasina's presence in India and her public address from the national capital have created a delicate diplomatic situation. While Dhaka has issued warnings against her political activities on Indian soil, New Delhi has denied any official involvement in her address.
