Ravneet Singh Bittu Resigns from Union Cabinet Ahead of Punjab Polls

Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, resigned from the Union Council of Ministers on July 24, 2026. President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation with immediate effect following a formal recommendation from the Prime Minister’s Office. Bittu had served in the central government since 2024, acting as a key bridge between the central leadership and the northern state of Punjab.

The resignation is widely viewed as a strategic move by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to intensify its political efforts in Punjab. Bittu, a three-time parliamentarian who joined the BJP earlier, remains a prominent face for the party in the region.
