Parliament Adjourned Amid Uproar Over NEET Paper Leak Protests

Both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha faced consecutive adjournments on Tuesday, marking the third day of disruptions in the Monsoon Session. The Upper House, chaired by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, was adjourned repeatedly after Opposition members intensified protests regarding the alleged NEET-UG medical entrance paper leak. Sloganeering by Opposition MPs, demanding accountability and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, created a standoff that forced legislative work to a complete halt.

The current unrest stems from police action taken against students and activists during a protest march on Monday. Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, joined the students at Jantar Mantar to voice concerns over alleged irregularities in examination procedures. Opposition members argue that the government's response, characterized by the use of tear gas and lathi charges on demonstrators, is unacceptable. They demand a transparent probe and a definitive statement from the Education Minister on the security of the national examination process.

The government maintains that it is open to dialogue, with reports suggesting that efforts are underway to reach out to protest leaders like climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to address specific grievances. However, the Parliament remains deadlocked as the Opposition refuses to abandon its call for a debate on the examination integrity issues. The government has also expressed concerns over the escalating situation in Delhi, deploying additional security forces to manage the large gatherings. The productivity of the Monsoon Session hangs in the balance as both sides remain locked in a confrontation that shows no immediate signs of de-escalation.
