India Monitors Pakistan's Gulf Defence Pacts and S-400 Espionage

Pakistan has expanded its military footprint in the Gulf region by signing a comprehensive joint defence agreement with Kuwait on August 27, 2026, in Rawalpindi. The deal was signed by Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, to provide military training and border management support. Simultaneously, Bangladesh is considering joining the Mecca Pact, a trilateral collective-defense treaty signed in August 2026 by Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan. Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Jeddah to discuss the invitation, raising alarms in New Delhi.

These diplomatic maneuvers coincide with critical revelations from India's military establishment regarding historical espionage threats. Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra disclosed that Pakistan deployed spies and activated domestic sleeper cells to locate India’s S-400 "Sudarshan" air defence systems. The espionage occurred during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 2025. Pakistan used electronic warfare, air intelligence, and foreign satellite support to target the Russian-made missile systems, which successfully countered Pakistani missile threats.

Security analysts warn that Pakistan’s expanding military alignments and Bangladesh’s potential entry into the Mecca Pact could isolate India regionally. New Delhi is concerned about Turkiye's consistent anti-India stance and Pakistan's efforts to use Bangladesh as a base to ferment domestic instability. While India maintains robust ties with Saudi Arabia, Dhaka's tilt toward the Riyadh-Islamabad-Ankara axis challenges its "Neighborhood First" policy. India will likely intensify diplomatic engagement with Gulf partners and accelerate the deployment of its remaining S-400 systems to secure its borders.
