Opposition Leaders Detained During Protest Near Prime Minister Residence

Opposition leaders led by Lok Sabha Opposition members staged an unprecedented sit-in protest on Tuesday outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. The demonstration was organized to demand accountability for alleged police brutality against students protesting the NEET medical entrance exam paper leak and to call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh criticized the protest as contrary to democratic norms, stating that the government had already agreed to a parliamentary discussion on the NEET issue before opposition leaders escalated demands. High-security police forces subsequently intervened, forcibly removing and detaining prominent political leaders and members of Parliament, who were transferred to stadia and police stations before later release.

The protest underscored deep political fractures between the Centre and opposition parties over systemic examination irregularities and student rights. While Union ministers asserted readiness for comprehensive legislative debate, opposition groups insisted on ministerial accountability and transparency regarding past examination leaks affecting millions of students nationwide.
