Nomura Report Highlights Net Job Creation Amid AI Adoption in India

A recent survey conducted by the anonymous professional community app Blind revealed that 66 percent of artificial intelligence and machine learning workers in India anticipate layoffs or significant headcount reductions within three to six months. This level of apprehension closely mirrors concerns reported by employees in sales, marketing, product, and design roles, challenging the widespread assumption that technical artificial intelligence roles provide absolute immunity against structural workforce changes.

In direct contrast to prevailing worker anxiety, a Nomura Holdings report presents a more balanced view, indicating that artificial intelligence-related hiring is actively outpacing job losses across the country. Analyzing 69 reported instances across Asia between 2022 and August 2026, Nomura documented 83,100 artificial intelligence-related hires in India compared against 31,921 layoffs and attrition linked to technological adoption, cementing India's position as ground zero for workplace transformation.

The $315 billion Indian information technology sector is experiencing a profound structural evolution where revenue growth is steadily decoupling from traditional headcount expansion. While support functions are increasingly absorbed by automated chatbots, recruitment demand remains robust for specialized platform-led skills, forcing companies to reallocate resources toward advanced technological capabilities and outcome-driven software engineering business models.
