NIA Arrests Manipur IED Attack Financier in Tronglaobi Blast Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested S. Palal Thadou on Wednesday in connection with the fatal IED attack in Tronglaobi, Manipur. This arrest marks the first major breakthrough in the investigation of the blast that claimed the lives of two children earlier this year. The agency alleges that Thadou played a pivotal role in the conspiracy and execution of the attack. Investigative teams tracked his movements through digital footprints and local intelligence before conducting a synchronized raid to apprehend him in a remote part of the state.

Beyond the physical attack, Thadou is identified as a key financial operative for the United Kuki National Army (UKNA). The NIA investigation reveals that he was responsible for managing the insurgent group's funds, which were utilized to procure explosives and sustain illegal operations. The UKNA is a Kuki insurgent group that has notably stayed away from peace negotiations and the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Indian government. Authorities believe that dismantling Thadou's financial network will significantly weaken the group's ability to carry out further strikes in the valley districts.
