Indian Railways Revises NJP-Nagercoil Amrit Bharat Timings

Indian Railways has announced a revision in the timetable for the New Jalpaiguri (NJP)-Nagercoil Amrit Bharat Express (Train Number 20603). Starting September 23, 2026, the train will see minor changes to its arrival times at Tirunelveli and Nagercoil. The express service will now arrive at Tirunelveli at 9:50 PM, which is 10 minutes earlier than its previous 10:00 PM slot. At its final destination in Nagercoil, the train will reach at 11:05 PM, five minutes later than its current 11:00 PM arrival. These adjustments aim to streamline operations across the Southern Railway zone while maintaining the train's weekly Wednesday departure from New Jalpaiguri at 4:45 PM.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off this specific Amrit Bharat service on January 17, 2026, to provide high-speed connectivity for budget-conscious travelers. The train covers a massive distance of 3,102 km in approximately 54 hours and 15 minutes, traversing through major hubs like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Designed for lower and middle-income passengers, the Amrit Bharat coaches offer amenities comparable to the premium Vande Bharat Express but at significantly lower fares. Currently, a ticket for the full journey between NJP and Nagercoil is priced at ₹1,230, making it one of the most affordable long-distance transit options in the country.

The revised schedule affects 43 halts across multiple states including West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Key stations on this route include Malda Town, Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar, and Coimbatore. For daily commuters and long-distance travelers in India, such incremental timing changes are critical for planning connecting travel and local transport.
