NCPI Internal Rift: Three MPs Break Ranks Over Alliance With BJP

A significant internal rift has emerged within the Nationalist Congress Party of India (NCPI) as three of its Members of Parliament have broken ranks with the party leadership over its deepening ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The dissenting MPs reportedly skipped a high-profile National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting, signaling their refusal to officially join the alliance or support its current trajectory. This development highlights growing ideological friction within the party, particularly among representatives who fear the alliance may alienate their core voter base. The move has placed the NCPI leadership in a difficult position as they attempt to maintain party unity while staying aligned with the Centre.

Amid the speculation, two of the dissenting NCPI MPs recently met with Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent political figure in West Bengal, fueling rumors about a potential shift in regional political equations. While the specifics of the meeting remain under wraps, it suggests that the rift is not just a central leadership issue but has deep regional implications. MP Abu Taher clarified that while he attended a breakfast meeting with the Prime Minister, it was primarily to raise public issues rather than to signal an official entry into the NDA. However, the decision to skip more formal alliance gatherings continues to point toward a strategic distancing.

The dissenting faction appears to be focusing on localized issues to justify their current stance. MP Yusuf Pathan has reportedly written to Suvendu Adhikari seeking the establishment of SIR (Special Investment Region) tribunals in every district of West Bengal. By championing such administrative and development-focused demands, these MPs are attempting to balance their legislative roles with their political opposition to the BJP-led alliance. The coming weeks will be critical as the NCPI leadership decides whether to take disciplinary action or attempt a reconciliation to keep the parliamentary group intact.
