Mini Countryman Off-Road Edition Prototype Unveiled Ahead of October Launch

Mini has revealed a prototype of an off-road-inspired version of the Countryman SUV ahead of its official debut scheduled for October 2026. The new derivative features a raised suspension setup, chunky all-terrain tires, and a roof-mounted tent to accentuate its adventurous character. Photographs released by the carmaker show the prototype undergoing testing in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, where rugged lifestyle vehicles have gained substantial popularity. Mini Chief Executive Jean-Philippe Parain confirmed that the brand is just one step away from introducing the production variant as part of its strategy to expand its lineup of special editions.

The forthcoming derivative reflects rising global consumer demand for vehicles built for outdoor activities and weekend getaways, according to Mini Design Chief Holger Hampf. The production model draws stylistic and functional cues from the Vagabund concepts showcased earlier this year, which re-imagined the Countryman with an off-road design language. This release aligns with Mini's broader goal of expanding its lifestyle-oriented offerings and offering broader customization options through bespoke editions and brand collaborations. In India, the current Mini Countryman range comprises two petrol engine choices, including the front-wheel-drive Countryman C and the performance-focused Countryman JCW All4.

The Indian market receives the entry-level Countryman C powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering 156hp and 240Nm of torque via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Sitting above it is the range-topping Countryman JCW All4, which features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 300hp and 400Nm of torque. The JCW All4 variant utilizes an all-wheel-drive system and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, accelerating from zero to 100kph in a claimed 5.4 seconds. The introduction of the off-road derivative in October will further bolster Mini's premium compact luxury crossover portfolio across international markets and India.
