McLaren Reveals McL 6GT Manual Concept

McLaren has unveiled the McL 6GT concept at the 2026 Monterey Car Week. The vehicle serves as a homage to Bruce McLaren's unfinished M6GT project from the 1960s. Notably, it is the first McLaren road car to feature a manual transmission since the iconic McLaren F1 launched in 1992, signaling a return to more mechanical driving experiences for the brand.

The concept features a carbon-fibre monocoque and body panels, blending classic proportions with a contemporary design language. Distinctive elements include a low nose, wide stance, and a Kammback-style rear. Inside, the cabin prioritizes driver engagement, retaining physical switchgear and featuring a manual gear lever adorned with the historic Speedy Kiwi emblem. The design is intended to honour the brand's racing heritage while providing a tactile interface for the driver.

McLaren has confirmed that the McL 6GT will enter production in 2028 as a low-volume model. While performance figures, engine output, and specific pricing details remain undisclosed, the project is clearly positioned outside the brand's core production range. This shift marks a deliberate effort to cater to enthusiasts seeking a purely mechanical driving experience, reinforcing McLaren's commitment to limited-production models that celebrate its historical legacy.
