Madras HC Mandates National Song for Independence Day Celebrations

The Madras High Court has issued a revised circular clarifying the ceremonial protocol for Independence Day 2026 celebrations. The directive mandates that the state song, 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu', must be played first, followed by the national song, 'Vande Mataram', before the hoisting of the national flag. This order applies to all courts across Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. In a simultaneous display of national pride, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur led a massive 'Tiranga Yatra' in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Hundreds of BJP workers and Yuva Morcha members participated in the procession, which traveled from Bhota Chowk to Gandhi Chowk. During the event, Thakur criticized the Congress party for its alleged stance on national symbols, accusing the opposition of playing politics over the tricolour while failing to take a firm stand against adversaries. The yatra serves as a significant mobilization effort for the party in the region.
