Kerala Bus Tragedies: Two Dead as KSRTC Vehicles Lose Control

Two separate road accidents involving Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses resulted in two fatalities and multiple injuries across Palakkad and Thrissur today. In Palakkad, a woman was killed when a bus traveling from Nelliyampathy to Nenmara skidded off the ghat road near Pothundy Dam and plummeted into a teak plantation. In Thrissur, another woman lost her life after being struck by a bus that veered off the road, reportedly after the driver suffered a sudden medical emergency. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to both sites to assist the survivors.

Authorities suggest that adverse weather conditions and medical health emergencies contributed to these fatal incidents. The Palakkad bus skidded at a sharp curve on a rain-soaked road at approximately 9:30 a.m. IST, causing the driver to lose control. In the Thrissur incident, local witnesses reported that the driver appeared to suffer a medical crisis, causing the vehicle to strike a woman who was at the location to see off her daughter. Preliminary reports from the police indicate that wet road surfaces made braking difficult in the ghat sections, exacerbating the impact of the Palakkad crash.
