Kanwar Yatra 2026: Traffic Chaos and Fatal Accidents Grip Delhi-NCR

At least five individuals lost their lives and 41 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents involving Kanwar Yatra pilgrims across Uttar Pradesh. In Delhi, residents are navigating slow-moving traffic as pilgrims occupy major arterial roads. Police departments in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram have issued extensive advisories, directing heavy vehicles to use the Dwarka and KMP Expressways. Beyond traffic delays, Delhi is witnessing substantial civic disruption due to high decibel levels generated by pilgrim convoys. Monitoring reports indicate that trucks equipped with large boomboxes are reaching noise levels of up to 110 decibels, significantly exceeding permissible limits. In some areas, up to six such vehicles were recorded within a 20-minute window, causing distress to residents and local businesses. Authorities are balancing religious sentiments with civic order as they manage the logistical burden of the yatra.
