JSW Motors Preparing iCar V23 Electric SUV for Indian Market

JSW Motors is developing its third model for the Indian market, an electric SUV based on the Chery iCar V23. Industry reports suggest the vehicle will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, aiming to capture the growing demand for off-road-capable electric vehicles. This model is positioned to challenge popular ICE off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar Roxx and is expected to be priced competitively under Rs 20 lakh. The move reflects JSW's aggressive entry strategy into the mainstream electric vehicle segment.

Internationally, the Chery iCar V23 uses an 81.76kWh NMC battery pack, providing an NEDC-certified range of 430km. The dual-motor system produces 211hp and 292Nm, achieving a 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds. The SUV is designed with robust proportions, measuring 4,220mm in length, and offers 210mm of ground clearance. Inside, the vehicle emphasizes a minimalist tech-forward cabin featuring a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, 540-degree camera systems, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

By positioning the iCar V23-based EV as a mass-market electric off-roader, JSW Motors seeks to create a unique niche in India where most off-road options remain internal combustion-powered. The inclusion of features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and ventilated seats aims to enhance the vehicle's appeal for lifestyle-oriented buyers. Following multiple sightings of test mules on Indian roads, the vehicle is anticipated to undergo final localization processes. The company’s success will hinge on its ability to maintain the sub-Rs 20 lakh price target while balancing the costs of the dual-motor all-wheel-drive hardware.
