J&K Marks 7th Anniversary of Article 370 Abrogation

Today marks exactly seven years since the Union Government revoked the special autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the wide-ranging transformation in the region, noting that Articles 370 and 35(A) are now part of history. He emphasized that this shift paved the way for the full application of the Constitution of India in the erstwhile state. The Prime Minister highlighted significant expansions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh since the 2019 decision.

Opposition parties including the National Conference and PDP organized street protests to mark the seventh anniversary of the constitutional change. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated his party's firm commitment to reversing the administrative and constitutional shifts that stripped the region of its special rights. In response to planned demonstrations, the J&K Police enforced strict regulations, stating that no public gatherings would be allowed without prior official permission. Security remained high across major districts to prevent any law-and-order disruptions during the political observances.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha termed the abrogation a historic turning point that ended decades of discrimination and established a new era of peace. During a commemorative event, he distributed appointment letters to family members of terror victims, showcasing the government's focus on social rehabilitation. While the administration points to a decline in violence and increased investment, local political leaders continue to demand the restoration of full statehood. The evolving political landscape remains centered on the balance between central governance and the eventual return to a fully elected state assembly.
