Jharkhand Students Protest Exam Irregularities with Effigy Burnings

Protesting students in Jharkhand burned effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday. The demonstrators expressed intense frustration over persistent irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Protesters gathered in large numbers, shouting slogans against the ruling JMM-led coalition. They specifically targeted the Congress party, demanding it withdraw support from the government if the exam issues remain unresolved.

The agitation stems from repeated leaks and administrative failures in state recruitment exams over the past year. Students claim these irregularities have ruined the career prospects of thousands of local aspirants. BJP MP Shahnawaz Hussain supported the protesters, stating that the Congress leadership is equally responsible for the state's governance failures. The opposition has accused the Hemant Soren administration of failing to secure the integrity of the competitive testing system despite multiple past assurances of reform.

The Jharkhand government has responded by inviting student representatives for a fourth round of negotiations to settle the dispute. Officials stated they are committed to resolving the grievances and ensuring fair conduct in future examinations. However, student leaders remain skeptical and have threatened to intensify their stir across the state. The outcome of these talks will determine whether the current academic and political unrest in Ranchi and surrounding districts will subside or escalate ahead of upcoming local elections.
