Jharkhand Recruitment Protests End: Soren Government Cancels JSSC Exam

Protests by job aspirants in Jharkhand have officially concluded after the state government agreed to cancel the controversial Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination. The agitation, which lasted for nearly a month, saw thousands of students demanding transparency in the recruitment process. Chandan Rajak, a spokesperson for the JPSC JSSC Abhyarthi Nyay Manch, confirmed that the organization has started removing protest arrangements from the site. This development follows a period of intense friction between the youth and the administration, marking a significant victory for the organized student movement.

The movement gained significant momentum when student leader Devendra Nath Mahato began a hunger strike to press for the exam's cancellation. Mahato and other activists alleged widespread irregularities and paper leaks that compromised the integrity of the test. Faced with deteriorating health for the leaders and growing public sympathy for the cause, the Hemant Soren government decided to buckle under pressure. The cancellation is seen as a tactical retreat by the ruling coalition to avoid further alienating the youth vote ahead of upcoming political challenges and to restore a semblance of order.

While the protest has ended, the focus now shifts to when the recruitment exams will be rescheduled and how the state plans to prevent future leaks. The JSSC is expected to announce a revised examination calendar with enhanced security measures. This incident has highlighted systemic issues in Jharkhand’s state-level hiring, which has been a recurring point of contention for years. For the thousands of aspirants who spent years preparing, the immediate impact is a mix of relief over the fair decision and frustration over the continued delay in securing government employment.
