Jharkhand Student Hunger Strike Intensifies Over JPSC Exams

The student-led protest in Jharkhand reached a critical point on Wednesday as five more job aspirants joined the ongoing hunger strike in Ranchi. This agitation, now in its 12th day, is centered at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Two different factions of students have united to demand the immediate cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination. They are also calling for comprehensive reforms within both the JPSC and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission to ensure transparency and merit-based hiring.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that the government is taking the examination row very seriously and that a decision will be taken at the appropriate time. However, the protesting students remain unsatisfied with these verbal assurances, demanding concrete action and a potential CBI probe into recruitment irregularities. The movement has gained social media traction, with CJP's Abhijeet Dipke backing the protests. Notable figures, including actor Sonakshi Sinha, have extended support, questioning when the systemic issues affecting students' futures will finally be addressed.

The protests highlight a deeper crisis of unemployment and high educational costs in the state. Many aspirants described desperate living conditions, with some claiming they deliver for Swiggy or sleep on railway platforms to afford exam fees. This economic strain has fueled the anger directed at the state recruitment commissions. For India, these protests reflect a growing trend of youth-led movements demanding accountability in government recruitment processes.
