Jharkhand Scraps JSSC-CGL Exams Amid Escalating Student Protests

Jharkhand's Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL and TDPL examinations conducted since 2014. This decision followed an emergency cabinet meeting aimed at addressing growing discontent over flawed recruitment processes. The state government also ordered a comprehensive probe into exam errors that occurred over the last decade. While the move aims to pacify candidates, those who had already cleared the now-scrapped exams expressed deep frustration over their sudden unemployment.

Aspirants gathered in large numbers to highlight systemic corruption and irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission's testing procedures. Simultaneously, student groups in Manipur have issued a call for a two-day strike. These protesters are demanding a National Register of Citizens update before the upcoming Census, reflecting a broader wave of student-led political pressure across multiple Indian states.

Despite the cancellation of the tainted exams, student unions in Jharkhand have refused to end their protests entirely. They maintain that only a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe can uncover the full extent of the recruitment scams. The state government faces significant pressure to reform the JSSC and ensure future transparency.
