Jadavpur University Clashes: ABVP and SFI Supporters Trade Blows

Jadavpur University in Kolkata witnessed a second consecutive day of violent clashes between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI). The unrest began when ABVP supporters attempted to enter the university premises, leading to intense physical altercations with Left-leaning student groups. Several students from both sides reported injuries as the groups traded blows and hurled objects at each other. The situation necessitated a large deployment of Kolkata Police to prevent the situation from spiraling further out of control.

The clashes are set against a backdrop of heightened political tension in West Bengal following recent electoral developments. Local leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have backed the ABVP, alleging that the university has become a haven for anti-national elements and Maoist sympathizers. The ABVP has been laying siege to the university, demanding administrative action against what they term 'Dimaagi Naxals'.
