Indian Railways Launches New IRCTC Beta Website

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched the beta version of its revamped ticketing website on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Accessible from 9 pm IST, the new portal aims to modernize the booking process for the millions of passengers who rely on the platform daily. The existing website, which dates back to 2002, currently processes roughly 1.45 million ticket bookings each day and has long faced criticism for its slow interface, cumbersome navigation, and reliance on complex captcha requirements.

The decision to accelerate development and launch the beta follows direct intervention from the Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw. During a visit to the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur, the Minister encountered students who highlighted the frustrations of using the legacy platform. Engaging with the student body, the government incorporated their design feedback to ensure the new interface is cleaner and more efficient. The ministry also initiated a parallel project to modernize the aging passenger reservation engine that powers the entire ticketing network.

The new beta portal features a significant reduction in friction by removing unnecessary pop-ups, flashing graphics, and captchas. Users can now view seat availability across all classes more clearly, save passenger details to accelerate repeat bookings, and complete transactions through integrated payment options like UPI, net banking, and digital wallets. Officials confirmed that the beta phase serves as a trial to catch functional defects before the full-scale rollout in the coming weeks. Passengers are encouraged to provide feedback during this period to further refine the platform's utility.
