Lax Gopisetty, the CEO of Infosys Public Services, remains unreachable following a massive flash flood event in Nepal that occurred on August 26, 2026. Gopisetty was in the region for personal reasons when the disaster struck. Infosys has issued an official statement confirming his status and is currently working in close coordination with international agencies and local authorities to secure information. The company is providing sustained support to his family during this period of uncertainty as rescue efforts continue across the heavily damaged Bhote Koshi River basin and surrounding districts.

The floods, triggered by a massive ice-and-rock glacier avalanche, have left at least 579 people dead in Nepal, with 1,924 individuals still reported missing. Across the border in China, authorities have recorded seven deaths and over 500 missing, bringing the total number of missing to at least 2,478. The geological impact has been immense, resulting in the destruction of 32 bridges and 25 miles of critical roadway. Over 93,000 residents have been affected, with the government of Nepal declaring disaster crisis zones for the next three months to streamline relief and specialized assistance.

Nepal has officially requested technical aid, particularly regarding tunnel rescue operations and large-scale body management. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has mobilized resources, noting that 320 Indian nationals are currently unaccounted for in the affected zones. With an additional 400 Indian citizens stranded in areas now cut off from overland access, the Indian government has extended specific offers of logistical and material support to Kathmandu. Authorities continue to warn of the risk of secondary flooding from debris-blocked lakes, advising all remaining residents to evacuate to higher ground immediately.
