Indian Railways Expands Vande Bharat Network And Amrit Bharat Routes

Indian Railways has initiated a major capacity expansion for its premium train services across multiple zones. Kerala's third Vande Bharat Express has been upgraded from eight to 16 coaches following nine months of operations to meet rising passenger demand. Simultaneously, India's first Vande Bharat freight train successfully completed a high-speed trial run on the Kota-Rohal Khurd route. The specialized cargo train reached a top speed of 130 kmph during the technical evaluation, marking a milestone for the country’s dedicated freight corridors.

The railway ministry has also operationalized the Dhanbad-Coimbatore Amrit Bharat Express to improve long-distance connectivity between Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. This service caters to a vital industrial corridor, offering enhanced amenities for budget-conscious travelers. The route includes strategic stops at major junctions to maximize utility for migrant workers and business commuters. These developments align with the broader national goal of modernizing the rolling stock and improving the average speed of both passenger and goods trains across the existing broad-gauge network.

These infrastructure enhancements are expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve logistics efficiency for Indian industry. The successful 130 kmph trial of the freight variant paves the way for faster delivery of time-sensitive goods, competing directly with road transport. For passengers in Kerala, the doubling of coach capacity will alleviate long waiting lists on the popular high-speed corridor. Moving forward, the Ministry of Railways plans to introduce more Amrit Bharat services to bridge the gap between premium and standard rail travel while expanding the Vande Bharat fleet.
