IndiaAI Mission Approves 13 Projects to Combat Deepfakes and Bias

The IndiaAI Mission has reached a significant milestone in its efforts to build a safe and trusted AI ecosystem. Under the 'Safe & Trusted AI' pillar, the government has officially approved 13 responsible AI projects specifically designed to address critical challenges such as deepfakes and algorithmic bias, ensuring that technological progress does not compromise societal integrity.

Beyond project approvals, the mission has successfully established 58 AI Centres of Excellence across various states and union territories. These centers operate through collaborative efforts between state governments and industry partners, creating a decentralized network for AI research and development. This infrastructure is intended to democratize access to AI tools and foster innovation at the grassroots level across the country.

India's commitment to responsible development was further solidified during its tenure as Chair of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The summit facilitated the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, where leading global AI developers pledged to prioritize safety and inclusivity. These initiatives, combined with the India AI Governance Guidelines released in late 2025, position India as a key architect in the global discourse on ethical AI adoption and frontier technology governance.
