India Identifies Nine Priority Areas For BRICS Health Cooperation

India has identified nine priority areas under the BRICS Health Track during the ongoing ministerial meeting in Chandigarh. These focus on strengthening health infrastructure, enhancing preparedness for future health emergencies, and leveraging digital health technologies. The initiative aims to foster collaborative research and development while ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and essential medicines across member nations.

A significant portion of the agenda involves integrating traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare and strengthening regulatory frameworks. The meeting also emphasizes the necessity of developing a skilled health workforce to meet the evolving demands of the population. By aligning these priorities, India seeks to create a more robust and responsive health system capable of addressing both current and future challenges.

In parallel with these international efforts, domestic health infrastructure continues to expand, with over 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs now operational across the country. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has also released final guidance for medical device software, providing regulatory clarity for digital health innovators. These steps, combined with the BRICS collaboration, represent a comprehensive approach to modernizing India's healthcare landscape and improving patient outcomes through technology and policy reform.
