India's 'Cockroach' Youth Movement Targets Jobs Crisis and Exam Leaks

A burgeoning youth movement, self-identified as the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP), has emerged as a vocal critic of the central government's handling of the employment crisis. Driven by millions of educated but unemployed Gen Z citizens, the movement draws its name from the perceived resilience and overlooked status of struggling students. Recent large-scale protests have been fueled by a series of high-profile employment exam leaks that have dashed the career dreams of aspirants. This demographic, which once formed a solid base of support for the ruling party, is increasingly turning toward direct street mobilization to demand systemic changes in the national recruitment process.

The movement gained further public attention following controversial remarks by author Taslima Nasreen, who compared the CJP protests to the 2024 student uprising in Bangladesh. Nasreen’s comments suggested that similar undercurrents of dissent were being manipulated into broader political chaos. In response, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke defended the group, asserting that the Indian youth movement is distinct and focused on domestic economic grievances rather than external agendas. Dipke argued that likening the stir to foreign uprisings is a deliberate attempt to defame the youth's legitimate demands for transparency in examinations and job security.
