India Expands 5G Reach to 99.9% of Districts Nationwide

India has achieved a significant milestone in its digital infrastructure rollout, with 5G services now available across all States and Union Territories. The network coverage has reached 99.9% of districts nationwide, supported by a massive increase in infrastructure, with the number of 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) rising to 562,971 as of June 30, 2026, up from 140,623 in March 2023.

Beyond 5G, the government is aggressively pursuing the 4G Saturation scheme, funded by Digital Bharat Nidhi. This initiative has already commissioned approximately 24,000 mobile towers to ensure 4G coverage in previously uncovered villages, aiming to bridge the digital divide and provide consistent connectivity to the most remote parts of the country.
