Government Unveils SAHI Framework And BODH Platform For Healthcare AI

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has launched two major initiatives, the Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for India (SAHI) framework and the BODH platform, at the India AI Summit 2026. These programs are designed to provide a structured, ethical, and safe pathway for integrating artificial intelligence into the Indian healthcare system. The government aims to ensure that AI tools serve as assistants to medical professionals rather than replacements, maintaining high standards of transparency and equity.

Developed by IIT Kanpur in collaboration with the National Health Authority, the BODH platform serves as a critical digital public good under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. It allows researchers to benchmark AI models against real-world clinical data without compromising patient privacy. By providing a secure environment for testing, the platform addresses one of the most significant hurdles in medical AI development: the need for high-quality, anonymized data for training and validation.

The SAHI framework establishes national guidance for the ethical adoption of AI, ensuring that all deployments operate within strict guardrails. By focusing on safety and equity, the government intends to standardize how AI is used across public and private hospitals. These initiatives represent a concerted effort to modernize India's healthcare infrastructure, leveraging technology to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes while protecting the integrity of the national health data ecosystem.
