Government Launches Bharat AI Kaushal To Upskill Five Million Youth

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has officially launched the Bharat AI Kaushal program, a massive national initiative designed to train five million Indian youth in artificial intelligence over the next three years. This comprehensive program covers critical technical domains including machine learning, data science, natural language processing, and computer vision, focusing heavily on practical industry applications to ensure job readiness.

This initiative addresses the widening gap between the rapid evolution of global AI technologies and the current skill sets available within the domestic workforce. By standardizing certification and providing structured training, the government aims to transform India into a primary global hub for AI talent, ensuring that the local workforce remains competitive as industries increasingly integrate automated systems into their core operations.

The first phase of the rollout is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with an initial target of reaching 500,000 participants across major technology hubs. This phased approach will allow the government to refine the curriculum based on real-time feedback from industry partners, ultimately scaling the program to reach rural and semi-urban areas to democratize access to high-end technology education by 2029.
