Government Expands Primary Healthcare Services Through National Health Mission

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is intensifying efforts to bolster primary healthcare services across India. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, confirmed that the government is providing robust technical and financial support to states and Union Territories under the National Health Mission (NHM). This initiative is designed to enhance public healthcare accessibility and promote proactive disease prevention, ensuring that quality medical services reach even the most remote corners of the country.

The strategy includes the widespread operationalization of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which serve as the cornerstone of the primary healthcare network. Additionally, the government is scaling up the Free Drugs Service Initiative and the Free Diagnostic Service Initiative to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients. These efforts are complemented by the deployment of Mobile Medical Units and the strengthening of National Ambulance Services, which are critical for providing timely emergency care and improving health outcomes in underserved regions.

A major component of this expansion is the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD). This program focuses on strengthening infrastructure and human resource development to tackle the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, including cervical cancer. By emphasizing early diagnosis and health promotion, the government aims to shift the focus from curative to preventive healthcare, ultimately reducing the long-term strain on the public health system and improving the overall quality of life for citizens.
