Google Renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook With New AI Features

Google has officially transitioned its popular research tool, NotebookLM, into Gemini Notebook. This rebranding follows the platform's significant growth since its 2023 debut, during which it expanded its reach to over 30 million users and 600,000 organizations. The company stated that the previous branding no longer adequately captured the product's evolving role within the broader Google AI ecosystem, prompting the shift to the Gemini-aligned identity.

Gemini Notebook now integrates a secure, native cloud computer, enabling the tool to execute code directly. This functionality allows users to perform complex data analysis grounded specifically in their uploaded sources. The update is currently available for Google AI Ultra subscribers and Workspace customers, with a wider rollout to Pro users scheduled over the coming weeks. The platform remains a standalone research utility while gaining deeper hooks into Search and the core Gemini application.

Beyond its standalone functions, Gemini Notebook will soon be accessible directly through AI Mode within Google Search. This integration marks a broader strategy to weave AI-driven data processing into the user's daily search and research workflows. By grounding analyses in user-provided documents, Google aims to position Gemini Notebook as a premier tool for information synthesis, effectively differentiating it from generic chatbot experiences while expanding its utility for enterprise and power users across the Google suite.
