Google Maps Android Auto Update: Immersive Navigation and Live Speedometer Rollout

Google is widening the rollout of two highly anticipated features for Android Auto users: Immersive Navigation and a built-in live speedometer. These upgrades, which were previously limited to beta testers, are now reaching a much broader audience on stable versions of Google Maps. The update is delivered through a server-side rollout, meaning users may see these features appear without needing a manual app update. This expansion signals Google's confidence in the stability of these tools for a global audience.

Immersive Navigation introduces richer road layouts and more detailed intersection views, making it easier for drivers to follow complex routes at a glance. It provides clearer lane guidance to prevent late-second maneuvers. Complementing this is the integrated speedometer, which displays the vehicle's current speed directly within the navigation interface. This reduces the need for drivers to look away from the infotainment screen to their instrument cluster, particularly in older vehicles where digital speed displays might be less prominent.

Alongside the navigation changes, users will notice the Google Assistant icon in the top-right corner of Google Maps on phones has been replaced by the Gemini logo. This transition reflects Google's strategic shift toward integrating its AI assistant across all core products.
