Heavy Rains Trigger Deadly Landslides In Nagaland, J&K

Heavy and incessant rainfall has triggered devastating landslides in Nagaland’s Mon district, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people. Authorities reported that the incident occurred early Sunday morning, with several other individuals sustaining injuries. The state government has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹74,000 for each of the injured. Local disaster management teams and police are currently engaged in intensive search and rescue operations to recover those still reported missing under the debris.

Simultaneously, Jammu and Kashmir has faced severe flooding, particularly in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, where 18 lives have been lost. The flash floods caused large-scale damage, washing away dozens of parked vehicles at a bus stand in Rajouri and destroying several residential and commercial structures. While initial rescue operations have been successful in moving families to safety, the administration remains on high alert as water levels in the Chenab River and other streams continue to pose a significant threat to nearby settlements.

Senior state leadership, including the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor, are actively monitoring the situation, with all administrative agencies tasked with prioritizing immediate relief and repair work. Link roads have been reported blocked due to debris, hampering local transport. Authorities have suspended the pilgrimage to major shrines in the Reasi district as a precautionary measure, while police continue to use public address systems to caution residents against venturing near swollen water bodies. The ongoing discharge from hydroelectric project reservoirs is being managed to prevent further flooding, and the public is urged to follow official updates closely.
