Electric Two-Wheeler Registrations In India Cross 2 Lakh Milestone

India's electric vehicle market reached a historic milestone in July 2026, with nationwide registrations across all categories surging over 66 percent to approximately 3.3 lakh units, compared to just under 2 lakh units in July 2025. Electric two-wheelers served as the primary growth catalyst, crossing the 2-lakh monthly registration mark for the first time ever with 204,201 units registered during July, improving from roughly 1.95 lakh units in June and 1.1 lakh units a year prior.

Electric models now account for approximately 11.2 percent of all two-wheelers registered within the country during the month. TVS Motor maintained its dominant leadership position in the electric two-wheeler segment by recording 55,465 registrations in July. Bajaj Auto followed closely with 45,562 Chetak registrations, while Ather Energy secured 30,317 units. Hero MotoCorp's Vida registered 22,883 units, and Ola Electric's registrations stood at 14,102 units for the month.

This record-breaking adoption rate reflects shifting consumer preferences toward electric mobility across urban and semi-urban Indian households. EV manufacturers are expected to expand production capacities ahead of the festive season by late 2026 to sustain demand. Industry executives will monitor battery supply chains and charging infrastructure rollouts to ensure continued momentum through the second half of the fiscal year.
