Delhi Family Flees Udaipur Luxury Hotel Without Paying ₹5.7 Lakh Bill

A family of four from Delhi is currently under police investigation for allegedly departing the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur without settling a bill totaling ₹5.74 lakh. The family, identified as Anurag Yadav, his wife, and two children, stayed at the prestigious five-star property for ten days, from August 14 to August 23. Upon checking out on August 24, they reportedly informed the hotel staff that the substantial bill would be settled by the travel agency that arranged their trip. However, they left the premises without ensuring the payment was processed, leading to a formal criminal complaint.

The hotel management registered an FIR at the Ambamata Police Station after verifying that the travel agency, named Maker Baha Travel Agency, had not authorized any credit or special payment terms. The booking was originally made via email, but the agency has reportedly denied responsibility for the final settlement. The Oberoi Udaivilas, frequently cited as one of India's most luxurious destinations, stated that the family availed themselves of all premium services, including expensive dining and accommodation, without making any direct payment during their ten-day vacation. This case highlights a concerning trend of payment defaults in the high-end hospitality sector.

Udaipur police have launched a formal probe to track the family's whereabouts in Delhi and verify the claims regarding the travel agency's involvement. If the allegations of fraud are proven, the individuals involved could face serious legal consequences for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. The incident has prompted discussions within the hospitality industry about implementing stricter payment verification and upfront deposit requirements, even for bookings made through recognized agencies. For now, the authorities are examining digital communication records between the hotel, the agency, and the guests to establish criminal intent.
