Delhi Mandates Public Charging Stations At All OEM Dealerships Under New Policy

The Delhi government has officially rolled out its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, effective July 1, 2026, to aggressively expand the capital's charging network. A central pillar of this policy requires all original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) operating in the city to install at least one public charging station at every dealership, ensuring that EV owners have reliable access to power.

These mandatory charging stations must be equipped with a minimum of three charging points for electric two- and three-wheelers, alongside two dedicated points for electric four-wheelers. To facilitate this rapid deployment, the policy introduces a single-window clearance system, allowing charge point operators and battery-swapping providers to secure necessary approvals and electricity connections without bureaucratic delays.

Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) has been appointed as the nodal agency to oversee the planning and implementation of this infrastructure. Beyond dealership requirements, the policy incentivizes residential communities to adopt EV chargers, placing the onus on OEMs to ensure that the supply of electric vehicles is matched by a robust, accessible, and timely charging ecosystem across the capital.
