Delhi Launches Lakshmi Yojana Portal for ₹2,500 Monthly Women's Stipend

The Delhi government officially launched the Lakshmi Yojana portal on Saturday, marking the start of a massive financial assistance programme for women. Chief Minister Gupta announced that the scheme aims to provide economic empowerment to the "sisters of Delhi" through a monthly stipend of ₹2,500. By noon on the first day, the portal had already recorded 1,083 successful registrations, indicating high public interest. The government has earmarked a substantial budget of ₹5,100 crore to fund the initiative for the current fiscal year.

To ensure the funds are used for family welfare and empowerment, the government has imposed specific spending restrictions. Beneficiaries are strictly prohibited from using the stipend for liquor or participating in online gaming platforms. The administration plans to conduct random, door-to-door visits to verify the eligibility of applicants and ensure the money reaches the intended recipients. Eligible women can choose between two options for receiving the assistance, though the specific technical details of these disbursement methods are being streamlined through the new portal.

This scheme is designed to enhance the financial independence of women in the national capital, particularly those from low-income households. CM Gupta emphasized that the registration process has been made digital to ensure transparency and minimize middleman interference. As registrations continue, the government expects the number of beneficiaries to scale rapidly. The successful rollout of the Lakshmi Yojana is seen as a major cornerstone of the current administration's social welfare agenda, aiming to provide a direct fiscal safety net for millions of families in Delhi.
