Delhi BMW Hit-and-Run: Speeding Car Kills Woman Near Airport

A 48-year-old woman, identified as a domestic help, was killed on Monday after being struck by a speeding BMW in the Delhi Cantt area. The incident occurred as she was attempting to cross the road near Mehram Nagar. The impact of the collision was so severe that the woman died at the scene before medical help could arrive. Witnesses described the luxury vehicle as traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Following the tragic accident, residents and villagers from the nearby Mehram Nagar block launched a spontaneous protest. The demonstrators blocked several key road stretches, demanding immediate justice for the victim and stricter traffic enforcement in the high-speed zone. This blockade led to massive traffic congestion on the roads leading to Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 3. Commuters faced significant delays as vehicles were backed up for several kilometers during the peak afternoon hours. Delhi Police had to deploy additional personnel to manage the crowd and restore order.

To alleviate the bottleneck, traffic police diverted vehicles traveling toward Terminal 3 to alternative routes. The diversion remained in place for several hours while authorities negotiated with the protesters to clear the road. This incident has reignited concerns regarding pedestrian safety near major arterial roads and airport corridors in New Delhi. Residents have previously called for better lighting and more foot overbridges in the area to prevent such accidents.
