Anthropic Returns Claude Fable 5 To Subscription Plans From July 20

Anthropic said on X that Claude Fable 5, the flagship model in its new Mythos tier, will again count toward standard weekly usage limits for Max and Team Premium subscribers starting July 20, though capped at 50% of those limits. Pro and Team Standard users will not get default inclusion; instead, they keep access only by enabling metered usage credits, and Anthropic is issuing them a one-time $100 credit to soften the transition.

The announcement caps a month of shifting deadlines. Fable 5 launched June 9 alongside its sibling model Mythos 5, was pulled offline June 12 to July 1 under US export-control rules, and returned with a free-inclusion window that Anthropic extended twice, from July 7 to July 12, then to July 19, before settling on the tiered structure now taking effect. Anthropic has attributed the repeated extensions to demand for the model being harder to forecast than expected, forcing it to expand capacity in stages rather than open access all at once.

For Indian developers and enterprise teams building on Claude, the practical effect is a partial retreat from the free-for-all access of early July: heavy users on Max and Team Premium retain built-in access but will hit a lower ceiling before falling back to credits billed at Anthropic's steepest published rate, $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Teams weighing costs have an alternative in Sonnet 5, Anthropic's new default model for Free and Pro tiers, priced at $2 and $10 per million tokens respectively through an introductory window running to August 31.
