CJP Team Assaulted During Government School Visit in Jaipur

A team from the non-profit organization Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) was allegedly assaulted by a group of villagers in the Bagru area of Jaipur. The incident occurred while the team, led by Ashutosh Ranka, was on its way to inspect a government school following reports of infrastructure failures. According to the activists, the locals intercepted their vehicle and physically attacked the members. One volunteer reportedly suffered a fractured arm during the scuffle, and the team’s vehicle was damaged. The villagers also barricaded the main approach road to prevent the activists from proceeding further into the village.

The CJP has leveled serious allegations against the local police, claiming that officers present at the scene acted as 'mute spectators' while the assault took place. The activists stated that they had informed the authorities about their visit, yet they received no protection when the situation escalated. Locals reportedly claimed that they did not want 'outsiders' interfering in village matters or inspecting local institutions. This incident follows a growing trend of resistance against external inspections of government facilities in the region. The organization has called for an immediate investigation into both the assault and the alleged negligence by the responding police personnel.

This clash comes at a time when several districts in North India, including parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, have restricted the entry of activists and YouTubers into government school campuses. Authorities have cited concerns over privacy and the disruption of educational activities as reasons for these restrictions. However, activists argue that such bans are intended to hide the poor state of public infrastructure and academic quality. The assault in Jaipur has triggered a debate over the safety of social workers in rural areas. Future inspections by civil society groups in Rajasthan may now require formal district-level authorization to prevent similar confrontations.
