BMRCL Receives CBTC Signaling Approval For Namma Metro Pink Line

The Railway Board has officially granted in-principle approval for the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system for Bengaluru's Namma Metro Pink Line, covering Reach-6, and the extensive Blue Line, which connects the city to Kempegowda International Airport. This regulatory clearance represents a critical milestone for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in its effort to commission the Pink Line corridor between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, as the signaling framework serves as the technological backbone for safe train operations.

The BMRCL has spent recent months coordinating closely with both the Railway Board and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) to accelerate this approval process. While the Pink Line awaited this specific clearance, the Blue Line project had already secured its signaling approval earlier, allowing for more advanced testing phases. Securing this authorization now shifts the project timeline into its final pre-operational phase, which involves intense safety testing and equipment calibration across the new transit infrastructure.

BMRCL is now initiating the formal statutory procedures required for public operations. This includes obtaining interim speed certification from the RDSO, followed by the rigorous inspection of rolling stock by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). Officials currently anticipate that the CRS will conduct a thorough inspection of the new Pink Line train sets between August 12 and 14, 2026. Successful clearance from these safety audits will clear the path for final trial runs and, eventually, full-scale passenger service across the expanding Bengaluru Metro network.
