Bihar Municipal Officer Murder: Wife Alleges LJP MLA Extortion

Vimal Kumar, a Municipal Executive Officer, was beaten to death while traveling from Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district to Patna. The attack took place in a deserted area, where Kumar was intercepted and fatally assaulted. Following the incident, the Bihar Police moved swiftly to arrest Kumar's driver, Mithilesh Kumar, who was present at the scene. The investigation is currently focusing on the sequence of events leading up to the ambush and identifying all individuals involved in the physical assault.

The murder has triggered a significant political storm following statements from the victim's wife. She has formally alleged that MLA Rajiv Ranjan Singh, representing the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), had been harassing the officer for several months. According to her statement, the MLA had repeatedly demanded an extortion sum of ₹50 lakh from Vimal Kumar. The family claims that the officer was under immense professional pressure and feared for his safety prior to the fatal attack.

The Bihar Police have registered a case and are interrogating the arrested driver to determine if he acted in collusion with the attackers. While the MLA has yet to respond to the specific allegations, the incident has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition regarding the safety of government officials in the state. Investigative teams are currently scanning mobile records and CCTV footage from the Dehri-Patna route to establish the identities of the other assailants and verify the extortion claims.
