Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Expands Coverage To Include All Senior Citizens

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has officially extended its health insurance coverage to include senior citizens, providing a significant boost to elderly healthcare access. Under the new guidelines, senior citizens already covered by existing AB PM-JAY families will receive an additional top-up cover of up to ₹5 lakh per year, ensuring enhanced financial protection against medical expenses.

For senior citizens who are not part of an existing AB PM-JAY family coverage, the scheme now provides a new, independent cover of up to ₹5 lakh per year on a family basis. This expansion is inclusive, covering individuals even if they are already enrolled in private health insurance policies or other government schemes such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) or the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).

This move is designed to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare for the elderly, who often face higher medical costs. By integrating these diverse groups into the PM-JAY framework, the government aims to create a more robust and inclusive safety net. The initiative is expected to streamline access to diagnostic and treatment facilities, ensuring that senior citizens across the country can avail themselves of quality healthcare services without the fear of catastrophic out-of-pocket expenditure.
