Army Launches ₹472 Crore T-Series Tank Overhaul Facility In Jabalpur

The Indian Army has inaugurated a new, dedicated overhaul facility in Jabalpur, involving an investment of ₹472 crore. This center focuses on the maintenance and life-extension of the existing T-72 and T-90 battle tank fleets. The facility is expected to enhance operational readiness by ensuring the tanks undergo rigorous servicing and technological upgrades to maintain their battlefield effectiveness.

The initiative aligns with India's long-term goal of fostering defence self-reliance, or Aatmanirbhar Bharat, by reducing dependence on foreign original equipment manufacturers for heavy maintenance. Previously, much of the depot-level repair for these complex platforms required long lead times and logistics challenges. By localizing these services in Jabalpur, the Army simplifies the maintenance cycle and ensures that its heavy armoured assets return to service faster, preserving critical combat capabilities across the border regions.

This facility marks a significant shift in how the military manages its long-term equipment assets. By creating a centralized hub for T-Series tanks, the armed forces can streamline supply chains and standardize repair procedures across units. The move also serves as a model for future upgrades of other infantry and armoured platforms, potentially paving the way for similar specialized maintenance centers for other combat vehicles in the near future.
